Skins Series 1 MTV

Perhaps MTV thought we wouldn't notice, but the "American" version of Skins is actually the Canadian version of Skins. I guess to MTV that Toronto looks exactly like Baltimore. To people, though, it really doesn't.

Worse yet, it's a word for word remake of the original rather than a truly new version with very noticeably Canadian accents. It would have been easy to get a new cast, film in the US, and write new scripts relevant to US kids that have the same themes as the UK version. There are plenty of great stories of American teen reprobate, but Canadian Skins opts instead to just repeat the same story lines, scenes and characters that made the original great, but without the same impact, ingenuity or power.

This is an unnecessary failure. I had high hopes as I loved the UK teen soap opera. This is a soulless pile of garbage replete with the main kid mimicking the original Tony's wise ass smile. So disappointed.

TLC choose to premiere a new reality TV called “My Strange Addiction” this holiday. A preview had been released before but this new one shows more people with bizarre and odd addictions such as eating toilet paper and living with a plastic doll.

Some of these people have gone through trauma which explained their strange addictions. Like the case with a mother who eats cleaning stuff because she was once molested and felt dirty inside. “The biggest secret I had was that I was molested. Maybe I felt dirty inside,” the woman said in the promo.

Then there’s Lori Broady who is obsessed with sleeping while a hairdryer is on. This has cost her a relationship with men because they think it’s strange. It was also dangerous for the hairdryer once fell and caught ablaze. “That’s why I did the show. I knew it was a problem”, Broady told the Today Show this morning after realizing that her daughter picks up the same habit.

Meanwhile, Keisha likes to nibble on toilet paper and keeps some on her desk. “I love the way the toilet paper feels on my tongue. When I’m in my car I keep a roll in my glove compartment box,” she said. “[My mum] doesn’t understand that I’ve tried and I can’t stop.” An expert told her that it could be fatal when her intestine is ruptured inside.

Men Of A Certain Age Season 2

Men of a Certain Age is a comedy-drama television series that stars Ray Romano, Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula as three best friends in their late forties dealing with the realities of middle age. The series follows the bonds of friendship among three life-long friends – Joe, Owen and Terry – who are now in their late 40s. Joe (Ray Romano) is a slightly neurotic separated father of two (Brittany Curran as Lucy, and Braeden Lemasters as Albert) who had hoped to become a pro golfer but now owns a party supply store, and has a gambling addiction. Owen (Andre Braugher) is an overstressed, diabetic husband and father, who works as a car salesman at the dealership owned by his father, a former NBA player. Terry (Scott Bakula) is a struggling actor, working temp jobs to make ends meet and usually dating much younger women. The friends are aware of each other’s life struggles and show typical male reactions to life issues. The show airs every Monday night at 10pm on TNT.

The show will feature amateur dancers competing for prizes similar to So You Think You Can Dance. Guess this is the best Disney Channel can come up with to replace the Sprouse twins, Miley Cyrus,and Selena Gomez when their show ends. I have no interest in any of these cartoons, stupid Disney turning it into cartoons.

First Look: The Killing

AMC moves on from promoting its acclaimed new series “The Walking Dead” to new crime drama series “The Killing”. Coming this March, “Killing”, as seen in the new trailer and featurette, will present a show in a different approach. Viewers are allowed to see from three perspectives and each episode will follow a full day in the three parties’ life.

Set in Seattle, the series is based on the successful Danish television series “Forbrydelsen” and tells the story of the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation. It comes from the executive producer of “Burn Notice”, Mikkel Bondesen.

“Ever since Mikkel Bondesen brought us this remarkable Danish mini-series, we were determined to bring it to American television,” said David Madden, Executive Vice President of Fox Television Studios. “We are so proud to be working with AMC and our extraordinary cast on this very special series.”

Mireille Enos portrays Sarah, the lead homicide detective that investigates the death of Rosie Larsen. Billy Campbell takes the role of Seattle’s City Council President running for Mayor, Darren Richmond. Meanwhile, Michelle Forbes and Brent Sexton are Mitch and Stan Larsen, the victim’s parents.

The show is set to premiere in March 2011.

Pauly D Gets Solo Show

It has only been a rumor for a while, but now MTV has confirmed that DJ Pauly D is going to get his own show. One of the guidos on the music channel’s popular reality series “Jersey Shore”, Pauly D is said distinguishing himself from the rest of the gang.

The spin-off series will follow the 30-year-old DJ’s life in Las Vegas. He filmed the pilot with 495 Productions in September and has just recently closed the deal. “At the heart of Jersey Shore is the unique and genuine cast and Pauly D. truly embodies both qualities,” Chris Linn, Executive Vice President of Programming and Head of Production for MTV said.

Linn continued, “[Pauly D has] distinguished himself onscreen as the fun-loving, well-coiffed and dependable guy you can’t help but want to hang out with. We know viewers are curious about his life away from the shore and we look forward to exploring new possibilities around that.”

Pauly D is not the only “Jersey Shore” star in talks of a solo show. The Situation, JWoww and Snooki were also in negotiations which are yet made official.

Meanwhile, the third season of “Jersey Shore” is heading to screen on January 6 at 10/9c.

Live To Dance Trailer

Like on “American Idol”, Paula Abdul takes the center seat on “Live to Dance”. A promo have been released to reveal all kind of dance acts that would perform before Paula and the other two judges, choreographer Travis Payne and singer/dancer Kimberly Wyatt. Taking the role of host is Andrew Gunsberg.

Various acts such as tap dancers, contemporary and ballet from any range of age are welcomed in the competition. It is based on the British series called “Got to Dance” and is set to compete with FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance”. The winning dancer(s) will receive a $500,000 grand prize.

Marking Abdul’s return to judging competition show, the new series by CBS is to debut January 4 at 8/7c, competing with FOX’s repeat of “Glee”. It will then move to Wednesdays at 8/7c starting January 19 to rival her former show “American Idol”.

“The Cape” will premiere on January 9, 2011, NBC shares new footage which combines action-packed scenes with some behind-the-scene footage. Brief interviews with its main actors like David Lyons, Keith David and Summer Glau are included as well.

It’s a good cop Vince Faraday “who was framed for a crime he did not commit, assumed dead by his family, by everyone, and takes on the persona of The Cape which is a comic book character that he used to read to his son,” Lyons explained the character he is playing in the TV series.

Fueled by a desire to reunite with his wife Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) and son Trip (Ryan Wynott), Faraday takes the law into his own hands to battle criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City where he’s living. He is joined by Max Malini (David), the ringleader of a circus gang of bank robbers, who mentors Faraday and trains him to become The Cape.
